THE SCIENCE OF COLOR ANALYSIS
The purpose of personal color analysis is to identify a person’s natural color tone in order that all other colors placed on the body (clothing, hair color, makeup, accessories, etc) will be in harmony with this tone.

COLOR HARMONY
When a color harmonizes with the skin tone both the coloring of the skin and the color worn are heightened. They look united and seem to glow with beauty. Harmonious colors intensify and strengthen each other. The color combinations are extremely pleasing to the eye.

When a color is not in harmony with the skin tone, it will fight against the skin. One will win-one will lose. If the skin’s tone is greater than the color, it will rob the color of it beauty and natural radiance. If you are wearing a color that is stronger than your skin’s tone, it will immediately drain color from your face. Your complexion will appear grayish and dull, making you look drained, tired and older. A color that is stronger than the skin’s tone will make your face appear insignificant by comparison.

All the unwanted things on our faces - shadows, fine lines, dark circles, blemishes and blotches are always in color tones that are opposite to our skin natural undertone. So, if you wear colors that are in opposition to your skin’s undertone they will automatically harmonize with the surface flaws and strengthen them.

12 TONE SEASONAL COLOR ANALYSIS

Each of us was created with unique characteristics of hair color, skin tone, eye color, nationality, bone structure and personality. So too, each season of the year has its distinctive colors, feelings, sensations, and energy flow. We often forget we are part of this natural order. Our personal coloring can be classified into different groups that relate to seasonal colors.

Just as each season has a range of colors, each individual has a range of colors that suits their seasonal type. Not only do we find that our seasonal classification can give guidance to wearing colors that best suit our looks, but those colors will also best support and express our personality.

A major contributor to the overall color tone of an individual is the skin’s undertone. This undertone is determined by the precise coloration of the blood. The red tone of blood is either a cool red, a warm red or a neutral red. We see this tone when someone blushes.

Cool Colors (Winter & Summer)
People with blue undertones in their skin, hair and eyes are classified as "Cools ".

Warm Colors (Autumn & Spring)
People with golden undertones in their skin, hair and eyes are classified as
"Warms ".

Neutral Colors (8 Neutral Tones between the Seasons)
People with neutral tones are neither warm or cool in tone, but somewhere in between. The 12 Tone Personal Color Analysis encompasses tones in between seasonal tones and recognizes neutral tone or those that are neither warm nor cool. 2/3 of the population are actually neutral in color tone.

The process of color analysis looks at the UNDERTONE (Hue), DEPTH (Value) and CLARITY (Chroma) of different colors against the skin, eyes and hair under full spectrum lighting to determine the dominant type.

The color analysis products and services we provide are based on the science of color and the Munsell Color System. Munsells is the most widely accepted system of color measurement. Albert Munsell also an artist invented the system of color identification based on responses of the human eye. In 1905 his System of Color Notation became universally recognized as the language of color. In this, colors were identified as having three characteristics – hue, value and chroma.

Hue defines the colors undertone (warm – yellow based), (cool – blue based) or neutral (an even amount of yellow and blue).

Value – the depth of a color – how light or dark it is…Munsell uses as scale from0-10 with black being 0 and white being 10.

Chroma – the clarity of the color – some colors are bright and vibrant and reflect the light while others are dusty or muted and seem to absorb the light. Munsell uses a scale from 0 to 14 with 0 being the most grayed and 14 being the clearest.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Personal Color Analysis?
Personal Color Analysis is the scientific analysis of a persons natural skin coloring in order to identify a personal color tone. The goal is to find the colors that are most harmonious with a person’s skin tone in order to balance and strengthen their natural coloring. The analysis also identifies those colors to avoid - those that compete with a person’s natural coloring creating negative visual affects.

Who should have a color analysis?
Color analysis is for both men and women and for people of all races and nationalities. We prefer to wait until teens are at least 18 or older. A color analysis is particularly useful for those who are looking to save money and time, those who want to look healthier, those who are interviewing for a job or want to make a positive impression, and for anyone who wants to maximize their appearance. A Personal Color Analysis makes a unique gift for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or other special events.

How does a color analysis work?
The analysis is done by observing and comparing the effects of placing different test

colors next to the skin. Colors that aren’t in harmony with the skin will fight against the skin tone. This will cause the face to look drained and cause shadows, lines, dark circles, blotches, blemishes and other flaws on the face to stand out. Colors that are in harmony with the face will cause both the skin tone and the color worn to look more vibrant.

Will a tan change the results of the analysis?
A slight tan should not affect the results of the color analysis, but it’s best to wait until a deep dark tan fads before doing the consultation.

Do you do groups?
We often have requests for groups to come to our studio for color analysis parties. Because of our detailed and thorough analysis, we can accommodate up to a maximum of 6 participants. The ideal group will be 2-4 participants and takes 2-3 hours

What makes a color analysis at Bella Bleu Color different?
Bella Bleu Color uses a state of the art Personal Color Analysis. This 12 tone Seasonal System goes beyond the 4 Season Color Analysis system that most people are familiar with. Back in the 70’s and 80’s many people were first introduced to the idea of color analysis through a 4-season method of identifying skin tone as either warm or cool. While this method worked for some, it was not complete. We now know that the majority of the population is neither warm nor cool but actually somewhere between.

In addition, our studio has been designed so that a scientific analysis can be completed. The walls are painted neutral gray, all lighting is full spectrum and all colors surrounding the client are neutralized.

We provide a 64-color canvas (non fading) Personal Book of Color Sci\ART™ with every consultation in addition to a full description of an individual’s seasonal profile and tips on wardrobe, hair color, hairstyle, etc. For females the consultation also includes a cosmetic consultation.

Clients are offered a full range of jewelry, handbags, cosmetics and other accessories to compliment their color palette. Many of these accessories are handmade by local artists. Our studio is nestled near the Erie Canal in the historic village of Pittsford, NY just outside of Rochester, NY.

Is the color analysis expensive?
No, the analysis costs $125 for woman and $100 for men. This includes the Personal Book of Color Sci\ART™ (valued at $65) and a seasonal profile, a cosmetic consultation (for females) as well as a variety of other wardrobe and style tips. The results of the analysis will last a lifetime, unlike other treatments such as haircuts, coloring, and salon treatments. A couple of items of clothing sitting in a closet never worn will add up to about the same as one analysis.

Using a Personal Book of Color Sci\ART™ helps the client to save time and money in addition to helping them feel and look better. They’ll have a wardrobe that is coordinated and versatile. They’ll need less makeup. They’ll only buy clothing that works for them. They’ll approach shopping with confidence and clarity.
